How Much Do Uber Drivers Make With Rides And Delivery ? My Experience In Miami

Uber has created a lot of buzz world wide since the start up a couple of years ago. Wether some see it as a positive or negative, they have drastically altered the transportation services. Uber was founded back in March of 2009 in San Fransisco, California. I’m not really here to give you a background of Uber but how much money you can actually make with them.

Most Uber drivers work there because it’s a decent way to supplement their income. I do think it’s a pretty good way for college students to get around their bills and making connections in the world.

Uber drivers make a lot less than what Uber advertises on internet. They have many ads claiming you make $25 an hour which is just not happening. This article will show you a realistic approach to make money as a driver for Uber.

How Much Do Uber Drivers Really Make ?

How Much Do Uber Drivers Make With Rides And Delivery ?Going on their 8th year and now with over 160,000 drivers, it’s obvious there is money to be made. You can’t expect drivers to be working free, if there are that many drivers then somehow there are drivers making decent money at the minimum.

As you can see below , you can make money but this is due to driving a lot of hours in Miami and late at nights (10 pm till the early morning) .

While those numbers look good just know that the average comes out to anywhere around 8 to 13 or 14 an hour. It’s going to take the place of a regular job plus all the cost it puts in your car might not be worth it.

When I first started with affiliate marketing, I did Uber to cover my cost at a part time basis. I just knew that it wasn’t too sustainable as my car won’t endure all those miles driving 50 to 70 hours a week.

After taking out the expenses you really only make about 2/3 of your actual payout. It’s still not bad but it’s things you have to take into consideration.

Uber send out a report that they can’t really speak on the salary of drivers because they technically don’t employ these drivers but they still have very strict requirements unlike Lyft.

They are just an app that connects drivers with potential clients. It’s a way to extract themselves from any issues that may pop up.

Complaints About The Downtime While Driving

Now this isn’t something that happens with Uber only. Lyft drivers experience this as well, it’s impossible to be making money all the time while logged into the app.

This tends to happen in smaller cities as there are less clients. In Miami, if you stay around the downtown area you shouldn’t be waiting too long for a passenger. The most i’ve experienced has been around 20 minutes but that was after getting the time of the good hours to work.

If you go to do Uber in the middle of the day you want be as successful as late at night it’s just not going to happen. I started working these hours and honestly, I was probably making $50 for like 7 hours of driving. The moment I changed it up to the night my average jumped to the $15 to $20 an hour average.

If you are to do Uber then I recommend you sign up to lyft as well to decrease the downtime and ultimately making more money per hour.

They also have Uber eats which i’ve also tried out and will give you my thoughts but let’s look at the car requirements before we continue.

Car Requirements For Uber

Here are the driver requirements at the minimum to drive for Uber.

  • Your vehicle must be 4 door (manual transmission is accepted).
  • Must be 21 years old (some places 23 ).
  • Driver must be insured in the car insurance.
  • 3 years driving experience at least.
  • Pass background and have clean driving record.
  • Pass car inspection as well.

You cannot drive a salvage car with Uber.

Being A Driver For UberEATS

Delivering food instead of driving people around has been more popular. Some people don’t like having strangers in their car so this is a good alternative. How Much Do Uber Drivers Make With Rides And Delivery ?

when you log into the app you will get a request to pick up from so and so restaurant then you’ll  be given a location to deliver to. It’s pretty simple honestly. I liked it more than driving people around ! This is probably due to the fact that I like working alone though lol

The vehicle requirements are much simpler for UberEATS as any vehicle will do except in some places where it will be more along the lines of Uberx . To be on the safe side, research your current location.

Also, the age requirement is only 19 years old with car minimum year of 1996.

One thing I enjoy is how you can have people in your car while doing UberEATS. You can’t do this if you are giving rides.

My Experience Driving With UberEATS

The claim is that you will make $10 to $20 an hour on average. When I did UberEats I drove in the mornings, started around 7 am and would come back to my house at noon.

In that time span I would average around $60 to $80 ! That’s not bad, it comes out to $12 – $16 an hour plus the distances weren’t too far. I drive in the Doral area in Miami and had pretty good results.

I still do it when I have nothing better to do as it get’s me out and about. I been told that from noon to 3pm is actually even better because people tend to spend more on lunch than breakfast.

I personally like just working the morning and being done for the day. Try it out and let me know your results !

My Verdict On Driving For Uber

From my experience, I made around $10 to $16 an hour but my average was $12. This isn’t suppose to be a full time job everyone. This is a way to supplement your current income not replace it.

Some people will run away because of the cost but most of it you are paying already. You already pay insurance but be aware that when you tell your insurance that you drive for uber your insurance will go up. It won’t be a lot but it’s something, mine went up $30 a month.

You will have to take care of wear and tear yourself, be sure you check your car constantly. I would advise you don’t use a high mile car or a very old one.

Also, if you have a 4 cylinder car then you will see more profit. I had a 6 cylinder chrysler 300 and oh man, I wasted a lot of gas. Have you driven for Uber ? Let me know what has been your experience or if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

I have been looking into becoming a Uber or Lyft drive but my concerns have held me back and continues to hold me back.

My concerns are as follows: The wear & tear it will put on my car. Safety? The amount of hours I will have to work…Is there a demand in central PA where I live? Will I make enough money for it to be worth it?

From reading your post it seems like overall it’s not, unless I was able to run a small transportation business of my own and cut the middle man out!

Thanks for the comment Salvatore! Overall, it’s tough to just be an uberdriver . I did it as a way to work on my online business while making some part time money on my owns hours in the meanwhile. The expenses is something to consider because it’s a lot of hours.

Think about it.. for UberEat you have to turn off your car or leave it running while you get down to pick up the food which sometimes isn’t ready and so on.

Thanks for an informative article about Uber driving. My husband has been looking in this for some time now as his regular job may not be very “regular” soon. He seems to think it will enough but after reading your post I think that’s a lot of hours on the road for the money. How do you think it would be if you have an 8 seater vehicle.?? is there a market for that kind of service, say for groups??

    1. yunier gonzalez says:

Hey Rose, thank you for the comment (: There is definitely a different market for Uberdrivers with larger vehicles, they pay more I believe. I used a 4 door sedan but if I read right then they do offer a higher rate per ride. This is essential for profits because I’m sure your cost will be more than a smaller car.

The hours on the road is something to definitely think about because there are expenses to take into consideration specially for older cars.

    Hi, Yunier.

Thank you for this information about Uber! I haven’t looked into Uber very much since I live in a smaller town, but I’ve always been interested in it. I would prefer to do UberEats if I ever get signed up.

I appreciated you providing your personal experience and explaining how much you actually make by joining Uber. I’ve always wondered how much you make and if it is worth it. It sounds like it can be a good way to make extra money, but, like you said, it can’t really replace your full-time job.

I’m definitely sticking with affiliate marketing for now. Thank you!

Thanks for the comment Weston ! Uber can be a good way to get you through tough times (need extra income or even if you lost a job) you work your own schedule with no boss. I agree, affiliate marketing is really where financial freedom is that but in the first few months it might be nice to do Uber in the meantime plus you could even promote your business.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m in a totally different country but we have Uber over here too. I may need to turn to Uber soon for extra income as I’m in a financial struggle currently. I hope UberEATs are here to as there is definitely a great demand for that in busy cities.

Thanks for the comment Kenny ! I like how driving for Uber can help you have a side income or even supplement an existing one. Uber is worldwide right now and that’s really encouraging. Maybe they will pay more in the future .
